Licensing for Land-Based Casinos in Malta
Applicants who wish to operate a land-based casino within the jurisdiction of Malta are required to have a Malta Government Concession. The Government Concession is needed in order for the gaming operator to qualify for a gaming license for the casino to operate legally, and in accordance with the Malta Gaming Authority’s (MGA) licensing regulations and directives applied.
The Government Concession granted to casino operators in Malta is valid for a 10-year period, and the operator will be subjected to a pre-defined fee for a 3-year period. The concessionaire, who is responsible for the application and acquisition of the B2C license from the MGA, is required to operate a minimum of 225 electronic gaming machines (EGMs) and 15 gaming tables.
Upon receiving the gaming license from the MGA, the casino operator will perform its duties to adhere to the license’s conditions, including all the relevant licensing regulations and directives that is applicable to all B2C license holders.
In addition, all casinos that operate in Malta are subject to the scrutiny of the MGA’s inspectors. The individuals who represent the organisation’s behalf will be present within the premises on a daily basis, ensuring that games on the casino property are operating properly within the law.
